After my stay

With hindsight im quite happy how my stay turned out to be, I did not really know what to expect and had a really great time in Bristol. I think Bristol surley has been the right choice, since Bristol might be bigger then any cities we have here in Switzerland and surly then my hometown, it everything seemed to be close and you could get everywhere with public transport within half an hour our 10-15 min with an uber. It's a green city with a lovely culture and extremly safe. It has a lot of extraordinary pubs and cafés and nearly all the people are extremly polite. I really enjoyed the time with my hostfamily as the were always nice and helped making my stay really enjoyable. I also really had a great time with some other students from the school which I probebly will keep in my memeory for a while. Last but not least the teachers at BLC were great, always motivated, well prepared and in the mood for a joke, what really helps you to keep the motivation high to go to school and learn something.
In a cultural aspect I guess both the swiss and the english are quite similar, both value politness and friendliness extremly high. Also in most other points both are quite compareable which made it easier for me to have a great time there. One thing the english are a bit too extreme in their politness is when they are forming in a queue. They might build a single 30m long queue at a busstop with five buses and you have no idea for wich the person in front is waiting but jumping one is considert extremly rude. While I surely like how the respect each others more then a in Switzerland, this seemed somethimes a bit wierd for my as a swiss person. Another thing I really like about them is how they try to keep the past alive a honour it, a thing which unfortunately has seen a decline in Switzerland over the last years.
Next years student really should ask themselfs want the want to do in their stay, before chosing the course and their residence, since intensive class is better for your general english while regular is better for seeing the area and places around your city. And while a host family is really great to improve your english, it can be sometimes a bit of russian roulette, whereas living in a students residence is better for doing stuff with other students.
While being cultural very similar to the swiss people they have on thing which is really dividing the people and this is Brexit, both sides call the others out for lies and think in case of the other way the country runs into serious danger and as it seems there will be no fast end to this topic.
I think I manly improved in terms of speaking and vocabulary since I got a lot more fluently in my time in the UK, but I also think I improved my general sense for language which makes grammar task for example remarkable easier for me than before. But I'm not sure how much I improved in terms of grammar rules it selfe. All in all I would say I went from a lower/mid B2 to an level at which I can take the CAE and think that I'll pass.
I mostly meet spanish or other swiss students but since they were all older than I (around 23-25) I think I learned to behave more like an adult person and got a bit more independent. Also discussions with Jack, my host, and some of the teachers really allowed me to see some things from a different perspective. Also it seems for me that you're never as patriotic as in an other country, I really was happy to come from Switzerland, as it is a country with litte to no problems and a good amount of wealth, which might take for granted.
In conclusion I'm quite happy how my stay went, I might could have a bit more in the beginning but your allways able to do more , so I'm fine with what if done.
